1. What is ViTenant?

ViTenant is a student-run platform designed exclusively for VIT students to find roommates and off-campus accommodation anonymously. We are not affiliated with or endorsed by Vellore Institute of Technology.

2. Data We Collect

  • Your VIT email address (used solely for authentication).
  • Your chosen anonymous alias (publicly visible inside the platform).
  • Optional profile information: NRI status, profile photo URL (not shown publicly — used internally only).
  • Room listings and join requests you create or submit.
  • Messages sent between users through the in-app chat system.

We do not collect your real name, phone number, or any financial information.

3. Anonymity Guarantee

Your VIT email is never displayed to other users. All public-facing interactions use your chosen alias only. We are architecturally designed so that no other user can identify you from the information shown on the platform.

However, anonymous communication does not exempt you from responsible use. Any misuse (harassment, spam, false listings) may result in account termination.

4. How We Use Your Data

  • To provide and operate the platform (authentication, listings, chat).
  • To match room seekers with room posters.
  • To send transactional emails (e.g., join request and acceptance notifications) — no marketing emails.

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with any third party for commercial purposes.

5. User Responsibilities

By using ViTenant you agree to:

  • Only post listings for real, legitimate accommodation.
  • Not impersonate another student or create fake accounts.
  • Not use the chat system to harass, threaten, or spam other users.
  • Not post any content that is illegal, discriminatory, or harmful.

6. No Endorsement or Verification

ViTenant does not verify, endorse, or guarantee any room listing, roommate, or accommodation arrangement made through the platform. All transactions, agreements, and arrangements are strictly between the individual users involved.

We strongly recommend meeting in a safe, public location before finalising any housing arrangement.

7. Data Retention & Deletion

You may delete your account at any time from Settings → Privacy. This permanently removes your account, all listings, join requests, and messages from our database.

8. Disclaimer of Warranty

ViTenant is provided “as is” without any warranty of any kind. We make no guarantees about uptime, data loss, or the accuracy of any listing. Use the platform at your own risk.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy occasionally. Continued use of ViTenant after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the new terms.
